Community Spotlight - Muuve & PSC
At Take Care Collective, we believe supporting your mental health goes beyond the therapist's office.
Healing can happen during a conversation on a walk. It can happen while sharing a meal with strangers who become friends. It can happen in the small moments of connection that remind us we are not meant to navigate life alone.
While therapy remains an important part of many people's wellness journeys, community is often the missing piece. Research consistently shows that social connection, movement, and belonging play a significant role in our emotional well-being. Yet in a world that often feels increasingly disconnected, finding genuine community can be challenging.
Thankfully, Philadelphia is home to a growing number of groups that are creating opportunities for people to gather, connect, and care for themselves and one another. Two local organizations that embody these values are Muuve Philly and Philly Supper Club.
Muuve: Movement as Community Care
When many of us think about exercise, we think about fitness goals, step counts, or workout routines. But movement can offer something much deeper than physical health - it can create connection.
Muuve (@muuvephila) has built a community around the simple act of walking together. Their events bring people out of their homes and into shared spaces where conversations unfold naturally, friendships develop, and people can experience the mental health benefits of movement without the pressure often associated with traditional fitness environments.
Walking has long been recognized as a powerful tool for emotional wellness. It can help reduce stress, improve mood, support nervous system regulation, and provide opportunities for reflection. When paired with community, those benefits multiply.
There is something uniquely comforting about walking side-by-side with others. Conversations feel easier. Silence feels less awkward. The focus shifts away from performance and toward presence.
Groups like Muuve remind us that caring for our mental health doesn't always require doing more. Sometimes it simply means showing up, taking a walk, and allowing ourselves to be in community.
Philly Supper Club: The Power of Gathering Around a Table
Food has always been about more than nourishment.
Throughout history, shared meals have served as a way to celebrate, process grief, strengthen relationships, and create belonging. Yet many adults find it increasingly difficult to build meaningful friendships and social connections.
Philly Supper Club (@phillysupperclubco) is helping to change that.
By bringing people together around a dinner table, the group creates opportunities for genuine conversation and relationship-building in an environment that feels welcoming and approachable. Whether someone is new to Philadelphia, looking to expand their social circle, or simply craving more meaningful connection, these gatherings offer a reminder that community can begin with something as simple as sharing a meal.
There is a reason many of our favorite memories involve food. Sitting across from another person, listening to their story, and sharing an experience creates a sense of connection that social media and text messages often cannot replicate.
In a time when loneliness has become a growing concern, spaces like Philly Supper Club provide something many of us desperately need: opportunities to connect.
Building a Mental Health Ecosystem
At Take Care Collective, we often talk about the importance of creating a life that supports your well-being - not just treating symptoms when they arise.
Therapy can be one part of that ecosystem. So can movement. So can friendship. So can community dinners, neighborhood walks, support groups, book clubs, and shared experiences.
Mental health is not built in isolation.
Groups like Muuve Philly and Philly Supper Club are helping create a Philadelphia where people have more opportunities to connect with others, move their bodies, share stories, and experience the kind of belonging that supports long-term wellness.
If you've been feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or simply looking for ways to build more community into your life, consider this your invitation.
Take the walk.
Join the dinner.
Start the conversation.
Because caring for yourself doesn't always mean doing it alone.
And sometimes the most powerful form of healing begins with showing up alongside others.
Thank you both for opening your groups to us, we can’t wait for more events in the future!
