Out of the Darkness

Walking Toward Healing: Join the Take Care Collective Team at the AFSP Out of the Darkness Walk in Philadelphia

At Take Care Collective, we're committed to supporting mental health, fostering community, and creating spaces for healing. That’s why we’re proud to join the Out of the Darkness Walk hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) in Philadelphia on October 5, 2025, at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts in Fairmount Park.

The Out of the Darkness program—a cornerstone of AFSP’s initiatives—raises critical awareness and funds for suicide prevention. Each year, it brings together communities across the country to honor lives lost, champion hope, and support survivors. Community walks are typically 5K (about 3.1 miles), offering a shared path toward healing and advocacy.

Participating isn’t just symbolic—it fuels:

  • Research for better prevention strategies

  • Education programs to help people recognize signs of distress

  • Support services for those grieving or struggling

  • Advocacy for policies that advance mental health

Why We Walk as a Team

When we walk together—as Take Care Collective—we multiply our impact. It becomes more than a fundraiser; it's a living expression of solidarity. By forming a team:

  • We uplift each other through the emotional weight of the cause.

  • We deepen our shared commitment to mental health and community.

  • We amplify visibility for the cause by walking as a collective voice.

How You Can Join Us

Joining the Take Care Collective team is simple:

  1. Register for the Greater Philadelphia Out of the Darkness Walk on October 5, 2025. Registration is free—there’s no fee to participate in the Community Walk

  2. Sign up for our team or let us know if you'd like to walk with us. We'll share details on how to fundraise, create or join our team in Team Central, and set up your personal fundraising page.

  3. Fundraise—if you’re able. Raising just $150 by Walk Day gets you an official Out of the Darkness Walk t-shirt; raising $250+ earns an additional gift post-event

  4. Show up, walk, and make a difference. The walk begins at 9:00 AM ET, with check-in starting at 8:30 AM

    Together, We Shine a Light

Walking is a powerful act—for everyone who has been touched by suicide or is standing alongside someone who is healing. By walking as a team, Take Care Collective brings warmth, presence, and action to this important cause.

If you’re ready to walk with us, raise your voice, and show up in solidarity, let us know. We’d love to walk with you.
